Gozo + Ferry

Gozo With A Camera

Gozo is where Malta loosens its shoulders: distances open up, colours breathe, and the whole trip gets a second rhythm.

Do not treat Gozo as a side note

Gozo is where Malta loosens its shoulders. Distances open up, colours breathe, and the whole trip gets a second rhythm. It changes the feel of the entire holiday, so give it a proper full day rather than a rushed half one, and catch an early ferry from Cirkewwa.

Do not overbook it

One church, one sea stop, one viewpoint, one food break. That is often enough. If you chase too much, Gozo loses its whole point. The classic combo is the Citadel in Victoria for texture and views, then across the island to Ramla Bay for sea and colour.

The golden-hour pairing

For late light, pair Ta' Pinu Basilica with the salt pans on the coast near Qbajjar. Open horizons, long shadows and almost nobody around: this is the most photogenic two-stop route on the island, and it works right up until the sun goes down.

Eat like a local

Lunch is ftira from a Nadur bakery, eaten on the ridge looking back at Malta, or a slow farm-kitchen meal inland around Xaghra. Keep the last ferry time in your pocket and do not cut it fine in summer; the queue at Mgarr harbour is part of island life.
